Social initiative: research is financed by institutions and corporations

Initially, CIMA is financed through a research and technology transfer contract with 15 Spanish institutions and corporations. Researchers also receive grants and other types of funding for particular projects. In the medium to long term, the aim is for CIMA to be self-financing through patents resulting from its research work.

Digna Biotech: a biotechnology company develops the patents

Digna Biotech was established to carry research through into its possible applications in treatment and diagnosis. This biotechnology company identifies the results of CIMA’s research at an early stage and protects its intellectual property. It then arranges the pre-clinical studies, clinical trials and documentation process. Digna Biotech is in constant contact with the pharmaceuticals market, which enables it to prioritize or direct the progress of research, seek partners for production and marketing, and make cooperation agreements to further its patents.
